Download Pinterest sections as folders, then into Figma or Canva

Download a Pinterest board with sections as a ZIP of folders with Unpinned, then drop each section into Figma, Canva or a local moodboard folder as is.

When Unpinned downloads a Pinterest board with sections, the ZIP has one folder per section, named the way you named it on Pinterest. A board with "Palette", "Type" and "Photography" arrives as three folders. This post is what to do with those folders in Figma, in Canva, and in a plain moodboard folder on disk. The download itself is one click on the Pinterest board downloader.

Start with the board, not the pins

Sort on Pinterest before you download. Moving a pin between sections there is a drag. Moving a file between folders later is fine too, but doing it once on the board means every future download is already sorted. Re-running a download on the same board tops up what changed and keeps the section folders.

If a board has no sections yet, add two or three before downloading. Even "Keep" and "Maybe" beats one flat folder of 300 files.

Figma

Unzip, then drag one section folder's files onto the canvas at once. Figma places them as a row of frames. With them still selected, press Shift+A to wrap them in an auto layout frame, set it to wrap, and name the frame after the section. Repeat per section. You end up with one frame per section and a page that reads the way the board did.

Two things to know. Figma imports the file at its pixel size, so a 2,000px pin arrives large. Select all and scale once. And drag from the unzipped folder, not from inside the ZIP, or macOS hands Figma the archive instead of the images.

Video files from the board do not drop onto a Figma canvas. Keep those in the folder and link to them from a text layer.

Canva

Open a design, go to Uploads, and upload one section folder's contents at a time. Canva lists uploads newest first, so uploading section by section keeps each group together in the panel. Canva Pro accounts can make a folder per section under Projects and move the uploads in. Free accounts rely on the upload order.

Canva accepts MP4, so video pins from the board go in the same way as the images. The mockup workflow uses this route to get board references into product shots.

A local moodboard folder

Sometimes the folder is the moodboard. Unzip into a project folder, keep the section subfolders, and open it in Finder gallery view or Windows Explorer's large icons. Full-size files, no upload step, and it works on a train.

The moodboard tool post goes into keeping those folders across projects. The short version is one folder per board, section subfolders untouched, and a "00 Selects" folder you copy the winners into so the original download stays a clean reference.

Naming that survives the round trip

Section names become folder names. Characters that are not allowed in a path are replaced. Keep section names short and avoid slashes and colons on Pinterest and the folders will match. Pin file names come from the pin, which is enough to find the source again.

FAQ

Do I need Pro for sections?

No. Sections come down as folders on the free plan. The free plan's limit is 50 pins per day, not features.

Can I download one section on its own?

Not as a separate action. Download the board and the section is its own folder inside the ZIP. Pull that folder out and ignore the rest.

Does Figma keep the folder structure?

Not by itself. Figma has no folders on the canvas, which is why the auto layout frame per section step above exists.
