Download Pinterest boards for free: how far the free plan goes
Download Pinterest boards free with Unpinned: 50 pins a day, no card, full resolution. How the daily limit works, a worked example, and what Pro adds.
Downloading · Product
Pinterest doesn't let you download a board in one click, so we built Unpinned, a browser extension that does exactly that. It's free to start: 50 pins a day, no card, no watermark. This post is about the free part: what it covers, how the daily limit counts, and when paying actually makes sense.
If you want every click and edge case of the download itself, how to download an entire Pinterest board is the complete guide. This one is the free route.
Step-by-step: download a Pinterest board for free
- Create an account. It's free, and we only store your email for a login link.
- Onboarding installs the extension for Chrome, Firefox or Edge.
- Open the Pinterest board you want to download.
- Click Unpinned in the bottom-right corner of the page. It stays there as you scroll.
- Click Download.
The ZIP lands in your downloads folder. If the board is 50 pins or fewer, you just got the whole board for free.
What "free" actually covers
The free plan downloads up to 50 Pinterest pins a day, at the highest resolution Pinterest holds, not thumbnails or re-encoded copies. The files are the same ones a Pro download returns. There is no trial clock and no card at signup.
Nothing else in the ZIP is held back. Video pins download as the original MP4. Sections come down as folders. Private boards work if your logged-in Pinterest account can open them. The free plan limits how many pins a day, and PDF export is part of Pro.
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Pins per day | 50 | Unlimited |
| Image quality | Highest available | Highest available |
| Whole boards | Yes, within the daily cap | Yes, no cap |
| Video pins | Yes | Yes |
| Sections as folders | Yes | Yes |
| Private boards you can open | Yes | Yes |
| PDF export | No | Yes |
| Card required | No | Yes |
How the 50-pin limit counts
Three things trip people up:
Per day, not per board. There is no board count. Five boards of 10 pins each is 50 pins. One board of 50 is 50 pins. Either is a free day.
Not per batch. You can't split a download into small batches to get more. Every pin counts toward the same 50, whether it came in one ZIP or five.
Rolling 24 hours. The count does not reset at midnight. Pins you download at 9pm come back to your allowance at 9pm the next day.
A video pin counts as one pin, same as an image. When you reach 50, Unpinned tells you, and you can come back later or upgrade.
At 50 a day that is up to 1,500 pins a month without paying. Most moodboarding never touches the limit. Ours doesn't, which is why we set it there.
Worked example: a 180-pin board over four days
Say your kitchen board has 180 pins and you want all of it without paying.
A free download takes as many pins as your allowance has left. So the way to cover a big board for free is to split it into pieces of 50 or fewer, and the piece Pinterest already gives you is the section. Unpinned downloads a single section the same way it downloads a board.
If the board is yours, add sections in Pinterest and move pins into them. Then:
| Day | Section | Pins | Running total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cabinets | 50 | 50 |
| 2 | Lighting | 45 | 95 |
| 3 | Tiles | 45 | 140 |
| 4 | Floors | 40 | 180 |
Open the section, click Unpinned, download. Wait 24 hours, do the next one. Four days for 180 pins, and nothing paid. You end up with one ZIP per section, which is roughly what the folders inside a single ZIP would have given you anyway.
If you need it today, that is what Pro is for. One month of Pro downloads the 180 pins in one go. Cancelling afterwards is fine. Open the extension, click Manage Subscription, and use the link we email you.
What Pro adds
One thing: the daily cap goes away. Download a 3,000-pin board in one sitting, or ten boards in an afternoon. Quality, video, sections and private boards are already in the free plan.
Pro is $7 a month or $60 a year in the US, and 7€ a month or 50€ a year elsewhere. The Pinterest board downloader page has the install links and the same prices.
Pay for Pro if you download large boards regularly, if you are backing up a whole account in one go, or if waiting a day costs you more than $7. Stay free if you collect a board here and there. Most people should stay free.
"No daily limits" elsewhere
Some Pinterest downloaders advertise no daily limits, or unlimited free downloads. We can't check every one, so we won't tell you they are wrong. We'd ask four questions before installing any of them, ours included:
- Where do the files come from? Full resolution, or the grid thumbnail?
- Does it see your boards? A tool that is not logged in as you cannot download a private board.
- What does it ask permission for? A Pinterest downloader needs Pinterest. It does not need every site you visit.
- How does it pay for itself? Servers and development cost money. If there is no price, something else is the price.
Unpinned's answers are on the security page. Our limit is 50 a day because that is what covers personal use while Pro pays for the rest. We'd rather say that plainly than call a tool unlimited and find the catch somewhere else.
